City of Atlanta Announces Modified Solid Waste Schedule on MLK Day
One-day garbage delay throughout the holiday week
ATLANTA - The Department of Public Works Office of Solid Waste Services will be closed Monday, January 17, 2022, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The MLK holiday is especially important to the City's solid waste employees as Dr. King was a champion for sanitation workers' rights.
Due to the staffing shortage caused by the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, garbage remains our priority and will be collected on a one-day delay throughout the holiday week. Crews will continue to work through nightfall and on weekends—based on staffing availability—to collect recycling and yard debris. During this time, residents are asked to leave recycling carts and yard debris bags curbside until collected.

Current staffing levels indicate the weekly collection of recycling will resume on Monday, January 31, 2022.
A daily modified recycling collections schedule and a list of Frequently Asked Questions are posted on the Public Works website to keep residents informed of staffing availability and its effect on operations and services.
Residents who need additional assistance can contact the City by dialing 404-546-0311. They may also visit www.atlantaga.gov/solidwaste. Updates are also provided via Twitter and Instagram at @ATLPublicWorks and on Facebook.
