Our Fire Department held a celebration event on October 5 at Headquarters to mark the start of Fire Prevention Week. It's observed every year at the beginning of October to educate everyone about Fire Safety, remind them to get a working smoke detector, and to bring attention to fire safety initiatives in our community. You can watch the whole ceremony here.

The theme of Fire Prevention Week this year is "Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety." It's a reminder that if you hear three loud beeps from your smoke detector, it means smoke or fire are there and to get to safety and call 911! If you hear a single chirp from your smoke detector every 30 to 60 seconds, your battery is low and needs to be replaced. The Macon-Bibb Fire Department will come install a smoke detector in your home free of charge. Give them a call at (478) 751-9180 to set it up.
