ATLANTA ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Brian P. Kemp has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Josh Lamb as the new director of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS). This appointment comes after the departure of previous director Chris Stallings.

Governor Kemp expressed his gratitude to Lt. Col. Lamb for taking on this important leadership role, which is crucial for the safety and recovery of Georgia's communities. He also thanked Mike Smith for his service during the transitional period and for his continued role as GEMA Chief of Staff.

Lt. Col. Lamb currently serves as the Assistant Commissioner for the Department of Public Safety, where he oversees various departments such as the Office of Professional Standards, Human Resources Division, Public Information Office, Office of Public Safety Support, and Legislative Affairs. He was appointed to this position on October 1, 2023, after previously serving as the Director of Administrative Services.

With over 25 years of experience in law enforcement, Lt. Col. Lamb began his career in 1996 as a special agent with the Tri-Circuit Drug Task Force after graduating from Georgia Southern University with a degree in justice studies. In 1998, he joined the Georgia State Patrol and has held various positions throughout his career including corporal at Post 11 Hinesville, sergeant at Post 45 Statesboro and Post 16 Helena, and lieutenant at Post 18 Reidsville. He also served as a member of the State of Georgia SWAT team for eight years.

In addition to his roles in law enforcement, Lt. Col. Lamb has also been involved in training and teaching nationally. He holds a master's degree in public administration from Columbus State University and is a graduate of both the FBI National Academy's 259th Session and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police Chief Executive Training Course.

Lt. Col. Lamb's dedication to public service extends beyond his professional life as he recently served as head of delegation for the 31st Georgia Law Enforcement Delegation to Israel. He and his wife, Alison, have two daughters, Kenley and Karson.

Governor Kemp has full confidence in Lt. Col. Lamb's abilities to lead GEMA/HS and ensure that the state is prepared to respond to disasters and keep Georgians safe. His experience, expertise, and commitment to public service make him a valuable addition to the agency's leadership team.
