ATLANTA ~ Georgia's Net Tax Collections Increase in September

According to the latest report from the Georgia Department of Revenue, the state's net tax collections for the month of September have increased by $60.3 million, or 1.9 percent, compared to the same period in fiscal year 2025. The total net tax revenue collected for the month was nearly $3.27 billion, up from $3.21 billion in FY 2025.

Year to date, net tax collections have also seen a slight increase of $64.5 million, or 0.8 percent, compared to September 2024 when net tax collections were at $8.11 billion.

The rise in net tax revenue can be attributed to various changes within different tax categories. Individual income tax collections saw a significant increase of $45.4 million, or 3.2 percent, compared to last year's total of almost $1.44 billion.

This increase can be broken down into several notable components including a decrease in individual income tax refunds issued by $14.8 million and an increase in income tax withholding payments by $19.9 million.

Additionally, individual income tax estimated payments also saw a rise of $9 million, or 5 percent, over September 2024 while all other individual tax categories combined for an increase of $1.7 million.

Sales and use tax collections also contributed to the overall net revenue increase with gross sales and use taxes totaling $1.59 billion for the month – an increase of $45 million or 2.9 percent compared to last year.

However, net sales and use taxes decreased by $26.7 million or -3.5 percent compared to last year's total of $767.7 million.

The adjusted sales tax distribution to local governments saw a slight increase of $6.5 million or 0.8 percent from last year's total of $773.7 million. Sales tax refunds also increased by $65.2 million over FY 2025.

Corporate income tax collections also saw a significant increase of $45.2 million, or 7.6 percent, compared to last year's total of $597.5 million.

This increase can be attributed to a decrease in corporate income tax refunds issued by $18.8 million and an increase in corporate income tax estimated payments by $8.2 million.

All other corporate tax payments, including corporate return payments, also saw a combined increase of $18.2 million.

Motor fuel taxes and motor vehicle tag and title fees also contributed to the overall net revenue increase with motor fuel tax collections increasing by $3.6 million, or 1.8 percent, compared to FY 2025.

Motor vehicle tag and title fee collections saw a significant increase of $6.5 million, or 20.8 percent, while title ad valorem tax (TAVT) collections decreased by $6.7 million or -8.5 percent compared to the previous fiscal year.

Overall, the State of Georgia has seen a positive trend in net tax revenue collections for the month of September with various categories contributing to the overall increase compared to last year's totals.
