ATLANTA ~ In a recent announcement, Governor Brian P. Kemp has appointed the Honorable Brian K. Epps to the Georgia Court of Appeals. This appointment comes after the resignation of the Honorable Brian M. Rickman, creating a vacancy on the court.
Judge Epps brings with him a wealth of experience, having served as a Magistrate Judge on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia for thirteen years. Prior to his time on the federal bench, he was a partner at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, where he specialized in representing commercial policyholders in insurance coverage disputes both domestically and internationally.
Aside from his legal career, Judge Epps has also been actively involved in his community for many years. He has served as a board member and chairman of Shepeard Community Blood Center and played a key role in establishing Prodigal Ministries and the Harlem High School Alumni Foundation. Additionally, he teaches mediation as an adjunct professor at the University of Georgia School of Law and has dedicated significant effort to developing mediation concepts and technologies.

Judge Epps received his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia with cum laude honors before earning his law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law. During his time in law school, he was a member of the Editorial Board for the Georgia Law Review. He also had the opportunity to clerk for Honorable Richard W. Story on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
Outside of his professional achievements, Judge Epps has been married to his wife Amy for 30 years. Amy is a regional literacy coach for an initiative established under the Georgia Early Literacy Act. The couple attends Stevens Creek Church and are proud parents to two adult children.
With such an impressive background and dedication to both his career and community, Judge Epps is sure to make valuable contributions to the Georgia Court of Appeals. His appointment is welcomed by many and will surely be beneficial to the state's judicial system.
