ATLANTA ~ Atlanta - In a recent announcement, Governor Brian P. Kemp and the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) revealed that the state has achieved a record-breaking $53.1 billion in exports, marking a 6.4% increase from the previous year. This growth outpaced the national average of 2.3%, solidifying Georgia's position as a leading global gateway for trade.

The state also climbed up one rank to become the sixth-largest exporter in the United States, facilitating over $198.7 billion in trade to 222 unique countries and territories.

Governor Kemp expressed his pride in this achievement, stating that "these record-breaking numbers represent economic opportunity and success in every corner of the state." He also highlighted that more than 87% of Georgia's exporters are small businesses, emphasizing the positive impact on local communities.

Georgia's success in exporting is not limited to a few key industries but rather reflects its diverse industry base. The top five exports for the state include civilian aircraft and ancillary parts, motor vehicles, data processing machines (computers), electrical apparatus for line telephony (telephone sets), and medical devices.

GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson credited Georgia's connectivity to over 200 global markets as a key factor in its resilient economy. He also acknowledged the support from various stakeholders, including the General Assembly, local leaders, and statewide partners, for creating an environment conducive to business growth.

The state's international trade efforts are further strengthened by its representatives in key markets worldwide. These representatives facilitate connections between Georgia exporters and global customers, with markets where Georgia maintains full-time representation accounting for 66% of exports and 83% of bilateral trade in 2024.

Deputy Commissioner of Trade Lizann Grupalo emphasized the importance of these partnerships at all levels in achieving four consecutive years of record-breaking exports. She also highlighted how Georgia's international representatives provide valuable insights into navigating the ever-changing global market, enabling small businesses to access new opportunities.

The state is home to the busiest and most efficient airport in the world, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and the fastest-growing and third-busiest container gateway in the U.S., the Port of Savannah. Additionally, the Georgia Ports Authority recently announced twelve consecutive months of year-over-year container volume growth, further solidifying its position as a key player in international trade.
