LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - GeorgiaChron -- The Educated Choices Program's highly anticipated collaboration with Doctors For Nutrition is here! The "Heart Smart: Eating for Cardiovascular Health" video and all accompanying materials are now available on the non-profit's free e-library. This education package also received the "Doctors For Nutrition Approved" badge, alongside "Healthful Eating" and "Eat For Your Health," which earned the accolade earlier this year.
"Heart Smart: Eating for Cardiovascular Health" disseminates heart health, disease prevention, and nutrition education in a way that is both fun and informative for ages 12+. Learning objectives include:
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, yet a significant majority of cases are preventable through lifestyle interventions. The Educated Choices Program and Doctors For Nutrition developed these evidence-based materials, recognizing this critical opportunity. Together, they aim to empower individuals with accurate, accessible information that enables them to make informed dietary choices, ultimately improving individual well-being and fostering better public health outcomes.

"The latest nutrition science shows that even small, positive changes to our eating habits can have a significant impact on our heart health," says says Stonor.
The "Heart Smart: Eating for Cardiovascular Health" Video and Curriculum Package includes free accompanying and follow-up resources for classrooms and community groups, including three days of lesson plans, guided notes, discussion prompts, thirteen activities with detailed instructions, homework, a quiz, answer keys, grading rubrics, and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).
The Educated Choices Program and Doctors For Nutrition plan to continue collaborating to create another video and curriculum package about diabetes in time for World Diabetes Day, November 14th, 2025. A Spanish version of "Heart Smart: Eating for Cardiovascular Health" is also expected soon.

- Explaining the relationship between dietary choices and the risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease.
- Comparing and contrasting the effects of a Western diet versus a heart-healthy diet on cardiovascular health.
- Demonstrating knowledge of heart-healthy foods by designing a meal plan that incorporates fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains, while reducing harmful fats, sodium, and added sugars.
