MCDONOUGH, Ga. - GeorgiaChron -- The Henry County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the Henry County Connected Vehicle Technology Deployment Plan, a major step toward transforming the county's transportation network through advanced vehicle-to-infrastructure technology. The plan was developed by P3Mobility, a leader in connected and intelligent transportation systems, in partnership with Henry County.
The Connected Vehicle (CV) Technology Deployment Plan is part of Henry County's U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) SMART Stage 1 Grant Program, which funded the county's initial connected vehicle prototype and planning activities. That prototype, currently being tested on select fire department vehicles, allows emergency vehicles to communicate directly with traffic signals to request green lights — improving response times and safety.
With the plan now approved, Henry County is preparing to apply for a USDOT SMART Stage 2 grant, which provides up to $15 million for large-scale deployment of connected vehicle infrastructure. The county's strategy focuses on equipping all 200+ signalized intersections and public fleet vehicles — including fire, EMS, and school buses — with next-generation connected vehicle technology.

"Henry County is taking a proactive, future-ready approach to transportation," said Jeremy Ward, Vice President of Operations at P3Mobility. "This plan positions the county to improve emergency response, reduce crashes, and lead Georgia in connected and automated transportation. We're proud to have partnered with Henry County to develop a plan that's both visionary and achievable."
The deployment plan outlines a four-phase implementation strategy, beginning with the most critical intersections based on traffic volume, crash data, and proximity to schools and hospitals. The project is designed to leverage state and federal funding programs to minimize or eliminate local costs.
