OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jan. 29, 2025 ~ As the 2020 hurricane season comes to an end, the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton continues to cause significant financial strain for businesses. According to recent reports, the damages caused by these two storms have surpassed $100 billion. With deductibles and other losses not covered by traditional insurance, many businesses are facing out-of-pocket costs in the tens of thousands of dollars.
However, for those businesses that had purchased parametric hurricane insurance from Vortex Insurance, the situation is different. These businesses were able to receive quick payouts and have peace of mind knowing that their policy would cover losses that may have been excluded or limited by other insurance.
One such example is a senior care facility located in Tifton, Georgia, within the 20-mile radius coverage area from Hurricane Helene. With a $65,000 insurance limit, this organization received a 70% payout, totaling $45,500. This allowed them to address immediate needs while waiting for other traditional coverage to kick in.

"Major hurricanes can be devastating for businesses," said Andy Klaus, Vice President of Business Development and lead producer for Vortex. "Our supplemental hurricane products provide financial relief quickly – when it's needed most – so businesses can get back to work faster. Clients are free to use the payout however they need: buy down deductibles, cover payroll, non-damage business interruption, repairs, replace spoiled inventory, etc."
One of the key benefits of parametric hurricane insurance is its flexibility in how the payout can be used. Businesses can use it to cover deductibles or losses from flood damage or even pay lost wages to employees due to business closures.
Unlike traditional insurance policies that require extensive documentation and claims filing processes, parametric hurricane insurance from Vortex is based on a set of pre-determined parameters chosen by the purchaser at least 30 days before the policy's effective date. These parameters include a 20- or 40-mile coverage area measured from the business location. If a major hurricane's recorded storm track crosses into this coverage area, the policy is triggered, and the insurance holder receives their payout without having to provide proof of loss.

This streamlined process results in faster claim processing and quicker payouts to cover pressing needs. In fact, businesses insured with Vortex located within 20 or 40 miles of Hurricane Helene's official NOAA storm path received their payouts by October 27.
Obtaining a policy from Vortex is also a straightforward process for both brokers and business owners. Howard Danziger of Acrisure praised the company's professionalism and expertise throughout the underwriting and claim process. "Vortex's knowledge and experience with this product are very impressive," he said. "This level of dedication and personalized attention is rare, and it was refreshing to work with someone who could clearly explain a complex product."
As businesses continue to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, it is clear that having parametric hurricane insurance from Vortex can provide much-needed financial relief during difficult times. With its quick payouts, flexible usage options, and simplified claims process, this type of insurance can be a valuable asset for businesses in hurricane-prone areas.
