Several recent drownings prompted a local business owner to take action to help save lives. Deo Oliver is the owner of Quick Kill Pest Services and is donating 12 life jackets for anyone to use at Amerson River Park. On Wednesday, Oliver brought the life jackets to the Jay Hall Memorial Canoe Launch at Amerson and gave them to Parks & Beautification Director Michael Glisson.
"I love the river, and I want everyone to be able to enjoy it safely," says Oliver. "I just knew I needed to do something. My belief in life is that if you see a need, and you're able to meet that need, then you're obligated to do it. We've got to help each other out."
"We're grateful a member of our community is stepping up to help," says Glisson. "The river can catch people off guard, and unfortunately, it's turned into a devastating situation for some people. These life jackets will help save lives."

The 12 jackets are available at three entry points to the river which are, the canoe launch, canoe takeout, and the overlook by the stone steps and Glisson hopes people will not only use the jackets – but put them back so others can stay safe.
"I want to encourage everyone to use them if you are going to be out on the river, and return them when you get out," says Glisson. "We also want to remind everyone that life jackets are required by law for folks on the river. We want people to enjoy this park and the river, but follow the rules – no alcohol, clean up your trash, and be a good steward of this beautiful place we all share and love."
Amerson River Park is open from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and the hours will change when it starts to get dark earlier in the fall.
