On Friday, February 12, Mayor Lester Miller proclaimed February 8-12 to be "National FCCLA Week" in Macon-Bibb County, with this year's them being "Beyond Measure." The Proclamation was presented to representatives from Appling Middle and Rutland High School's Family Career and Community Leaders of Americas (FCCLA), and he encouraged people to show interest in, and provide support and encouragement to the students who are working to achieve knowledge and experience that will help prepare them for future responsibilities as active and concerned adult members of society.

FCCLA is the national nonprofit, family-focused, intracurricular student organization for Family and Consumer Sciences students, helping youth assume their roles in society through education in the areas of personal growth, family life, college readiness, career exploration, leadership, and community involvement.
