CHICAGO, Oct. 22, 2024 ~ The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF) has announced the appointment of Dr. Amy Hajari Case as their new Chief Medical Officer. The PFF is a leading organization in research, education, and advocacy for pulmonary fibrosis (PF), a lung disease that affects over 250,000 Americans.

Dr. Hajari Case is currently the Director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Program and Pulmonary and Critical Care Research Department at Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta. She joined the PFF in 2020 as Senior Medical Advisor for Education and Awareness.

According to David McNinch, President of the PFF Board of Directors, Dr. Hajari Case is highly respected by her peers and community for her leadership in education and communication for patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). He also praised her ability to bring together the entire PF community to develop initiatives that align with the PFF's long-term mission.

In her new role as Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Hajari Case will be responsible for developing the PFF's strategic plan, including initiatives to engage patients in clinical trials. She expressed her excitement about joining the PFF team at a time when there are promising developments in treatments for PF and ILD.

Dr. Hajari Case is board certified in pulmonary disease and critical care medicine and is a member of the American Thoracic Society. She also holds fellowship status with the American College of Chest Physicians. With her specialization in diagnosing and managing patients with interstitial lung diseases, she serves as a principal investigator for numerous clinical trials related to pulmonary fibrosis.

She received her undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College and completed her medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Effective immediately, Dr. Hajari Case will assume her role as Chief Medical Officer while continuing to see patients at Piedmont Healthcare. Scott Staszak, President and CEO of the PFF, expressed his excitement about having Dr. Hajari Case's leadership as the organization enters a new era of artificial intelligence in healthcare, which has the potential to accelerate progress in research and patient care.

Pulmonary fibrosis and interstitial lung disease are characterized by inflammation and scarring in the lungs, which can impair their ability to absorb oxygen. The prevalence of these disorders is on the rise, with over 50,000 new cases diagnosed annually. The PFF's mission is to provide support to patients and their loved ones while advancing research for better treatments and ultimately a cure for pulmonary fibrosis.

With Dr. Hajari Case's appointment as Chief Medical Officer, the PFF is poised to continue making strides in achieving their mission and improving the lives of those living with pulmonary fibrosis.
