Statement on President and Vice President's Visit to Atlanta

—Mayor Andre Dickens issued the following statement:

"President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris' trip to our city underscores the importance of Atlanta's voice in fighting for voting rights. Bringing this message to the Atlanta University Center—where the Atlanta Student Movement was birthed—was a pivotal and poignant choice. As the cradle of the Civil Rights Movement and home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Atlanta helped change the composition of the U.S. Senate by electing Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Passing the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act must happen if we hope to preserve our democracy. I am honored that the President and Vice President chose Atlanta to share that message—and proud that my 17-year-old daughter was there to witness it. I will personally do everything in my power to support the passing of those two very critical bills."
