Medical startup sets its sights on improving outcomes for treatment of chronic pain.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - GeorgiaChron -- High-impact Chronic Pain (HICP) is pain that impacts your quality of life. It keeps you from enjoying the people you love and the things you used to do. One of the most common reasons for adults to seek medical attention is for pain relief, oftentimes associated with mobility issues that restrict an individual's lifestyle. Older adults are disproportionately affected by HICP due to age-related changes. A quick internet search reveals that nearly 50 million adults suffer from some form of chronic pain.

The United States has a National Pain Strategy recognizing the significance of pain as a public health problem and to explore interventions. Several recommendations arose which are summarized below:
  • The acknowledgement that chronic pain is a disease in itself.
  • Treatments should be integrated and multimodal.
  • It is essential that the treatment for pain uses high-quality techniques and practices.

SUN Pain Institute, a medical startup in Savannah, Georgia, is poised to address this national health crisis. Their mission is to continuously improve practices by offering a higher-quality, multimodal approach to assessment, treatment and pain care than is currently available. They intend to set the standard for HICP treatment.
