ATLANTA ~ Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has extended the state of emergency tied to global market volatility and continued the suspension of the state's motor fuel excise tax through Nov. 30.
The extension, announced in consultation with Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and House Speaker Jon Burns, is intended to provide relief during the Thanksgiving travel period, Kemp said. The suspension applies to a tax that normally amounts to 33.3 cents per gallon of gasoline and 37.3 cents per gallon of diesel.

Kemp said the move would help keep money in residents' pockets while fuel prices remain high. He also cited the state's tax refunds and property tax relief as examples of its fiscal policies.
The state's emergency orders have also suspended weight limits for commercial vehicles and penalties for using off-road dyed diesel on roads, according to the announcement.
AAA figures cited by the governor's office put Georgia's average price at $3.66 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.72 for diesel. The office said those prices were about 63 cents and 61 cents below the respective national averages.
